The significance of Rama Navami and the interesting aspect of the tithi is explained in this post. Rama navami signifies the birth of God Rama the seventh incarnation of God Vishnu, who was born in Ayodhya, but why was God Rama born on this day? which according to Hinduism is an inauspicious day (navami).

It is believed that according to a legend, the devathass of both the Tithis approached Sriman Narayana and had requested that they wanted to be relieved from the inauspicious factor on them.

Therefore Sriman Narayana thought about their request and told them that during the incarnation as Divine Rama and Krishna, he would be born on these tithis so that people would celebrate the tithis.

Hence the inauspicious day navami is observed as an auspicious day on the Rama Navami which falls on the 9th day of Hindu month Chaitra or Chithirai – (March – April). The celebrations are remarkable in Ayodhya (birthplace of God Rama), devotees from all over the world visit and take holy dip in the sacred river Saryu after which they’ll take part in the birthday celebrations.

Several devotees celebrate the festival, by observing fast and chant the holy name of divine Rama, It is believed that by uttering divine Rama’s name, one can get rid of their sins and achieve salvation.

The Hindu epic “Ramayana” is read in the temples, bhajans, bhajans, songs are performed in the temples today. In south India this day is also marked as the marriage of Divine Rama and Devi Sita, temple priests conduct a wedding ceremony called “Kalyanaotsavam”. Hence the devotees all over the world to gratify God Rama celebrate Rama navami in grandeur.
