About The Temple

Legend and Stories


According to mythology, God Brahma's two daughters Kamali and Valli wished to marry God Shiva. Knowing that their wish is very difficult to be fulfilled, God Brahma sent them to worship God Shiva on the banks of river Paalaru. Shiva, being pleased with their penance, appeared before them and told them that it is not possible for them to marry Him as He is already married to Parvathi and advised them to marry God Ganapathy. Accordingly God Ganapathy, after conquering the demon king Gajamukasuran, came to Thiruvalidhaayam and married Kamali and Valli. Bharadwajar, child of Jupiter was conceived as the child of a sparrow – Kari Kuruvi – additionally Valian in Tamil. Disheartened by his introduction to the world as a sparrow, he revered Lord Shiva in numerous hallowed spots.
