Labesvara Temple

The temple of Labesvara is situated very close to its twin temple Kushesvara. But not much is known about the temple of Kushesvara. Both the temples lie in the older part of Bhubaneshwar city in close proximity to the famed ancient Ramesvara temple. Labesvara Shiva is a functional temple with the temple trustees managing the daily affairs of the temple and attending to the needs of the devotees who visit it. The temple faces west and the enshrined deity is a lingam within a circular yonipitha (In Hindu philosophy, yoni is the origin of life. The yoni is also considered to be an abstract representation of Shakti and Devi, the creative force that moves through the entire universe while pitha would mean seat. In a broader sense yonipitha would mean the seat of life) inside the sanctum.

Significance
