Overview


Anjaneyar Temple, (also known as Sri Selva Anjaneyar Temple ) is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is located at Chennimalai, Erode District, Tamil Nadu.


About The Deity


The main presiding deity is made of Panchalokas – comprising of five metals - weighing 650 kg and 5.5. feet tall.


Legend and Stories


During His search for Mother Sita, who was held captive in the Ashoka Vana by Ravana, it is believed that Anjaneya passed through Chennimalai. The spot he stayed has grown into a rock later. The present temple is built on this rock.

Fifty years ago people began to worship Sri Anjaneya, by installing the idol on the rock. It is the staunch belief of the people, that the 650 kg Panchaloka Anjaneya has magnificent powers. Though there are many Anjaneya temples in the country, the idols are made of stone only. This is the only temple that has a Panchaloka idol, 5.5. feet tall. It is also a hill temple.


Festivals


Special pujas on the first day of each Tamil month and Sri Rama Navami are celebrated in the temple.

Stable wealth, longevity, disease-free life, Timely marriage are the prayers offered at the feet of Sri Anjaneya.

Devotees offer Tulsi garlands, Sri Rama Japa garlands, offer Sendurua and butter to Sri Anjaneya on realizing their prayers.

The nearest airport is at Coimbatore Airport.


Rail

The nearest railway station is at Erode Railway Station.


Road

The temple is situated on the Chennimalai-Perundurai Road. Buses from Erode bound to Palani and Darapuram pass through the temple. There are also town bus facilities from Kangayam and Perundurai.

Meaning -I bow before the wind God's darling son, Anjana's son, the great killer of ogres, who is handsome and like a golden mountain, who lives near Parijatha tree's roots.

Divya Mangala Dehaaya Peethambara Dharayacha Thaptha Kanchana Varnaaya Mangalam Shri Hanumathey

Meaning -Oh Lord Hanuman who has a mystical form, who adorns a silk garment in yellow and who looks similar to molten gold, let thy be auspiciousness.

Anjana Nandanam Veeram Janaki Soka Naasanam, Kapeesa Maksha Hantharam, Vandhe Lanka Bhayankaram

Meaning -We salute Lanka's horror, Anjana's brave son, who ended Sita's sorrows, the ruler of monkeys and the one who killed Aksha, Ravana's son.
