Manimangalam is 20 km toward the east of Sriperumbudur. It finds a spot in the historical backdrop of Tamil Nadu as the spot where Narasimha Varma Pallava crushed the Chalukyas in the seventh century A.D. This reality is said in the copper plates found at Kooram. Kalki has expounded on the Manimangalam fight in his book 'Sivagamiyin Sabatham'. He portrays how Mahendra Varma Pallava was harmed in the fight at Manimangalam, and how his child Narasimha Varma Pallava and his trusted lieutenant Paranjoti vanquished Pulikesin's armed force. Vaikuntanathar sanctuary is as old as the Rajagopala sanctuary.
