The deity here is in the form of a Siva lingam within a circular yoni pitha placed at the centre of the sanctum. It is one of the four pithas. The remaining pithas are Bhoga pitha at Lingaraj, Yoga pitha at Kharakhia Baidyanath and Siddha Pitha at KedaraGouri temple. So, Uttaresvara is called Tantra pitha.
