Twarita Devi

Formerly the jagir village of one of the Brahman sardars serving under the Nizams of Hyderabad, the village of Talvada is a large village in Gevrai tahsil. The temple of Twarita Devi is situated to the south of the village, on a hilltop and it has a dipmal at the entrance. According to a stone slab bearing an inscription in the dipmal, the old name of the village was Tvaritapur, named after the Goddess and Gopal Vaijaji Kulkarni built it. The origin of the name Talvada is unknown but it is believed that it is derived from the existence of a lake at the foot of the hill (Tal in Marathi means lake and Vada means hamlet).
