Saarang Nath Temple

Overview


The temple is located on the Saarangnath Road in Saarangnath locality of Saarnath. This temple is believed to be an ancient one belonging to Shaivite Sect. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Stairs lead to the main entrance of the temple. There is a statue of Nandi near the entrance. The temple houses twin Shiva lingam in its sanctum and both the Shiva lingams are worshipped together here. The temple is visited by a large number of devotees during Shravan month (July-August) and on Shivaratri.


Legend


Bhuvaneswari Temple

This temple name is related to Saarang Muni (saint) who is brother of God Shiva's wife Parvathi. As per legend, during short stay of Shiva and Parvathi in Kasi, Saarang Muni visited this place to meet them. He liked this place very much that he decided to stay here at Saarnath. Lord Shiva promised him that he will visit his place in Shravan month (Hindu calendar month, July to August).

Meaning -We worship the fragrant Lord Shiva, who has 3 eyes and who cultivates all beings. May He free me from death, for immortality, as even a cucumber is separated from its bond with the vine.
