Nallandavar Temple

The Nallandavar Temple is located in Manaparai and is dedicated to Nallandavar. This temple has separate shrines for Sri Anjaneya, Teppakulam Murugan, Omkara Vinayaka, Pechiamman, Pattathu Yanai, Nallandavar Yanai, God Anumadhi Vinayaka, Madurai Veeran, Parikarar and Ezhu Karuppanaswami. This place has many stories connected to it. Out of the many it is common belief that this is the place where God Rama killed the magical deer and hence this place was named Maan (deer) Poondi. It later came to be known as Mamundi. There is another story that this place was once reigned by a King called Mamundi Vallal. He was a mighty King at the same time benevolent and also possessed super powers. It is said that as he safe guarded this place and its people from robbers and proved good authority this place is named after him.It is said that once when the Saptha Kannikas, Brahmi, Maheswari, Goumari, Vaishnavi, Vaarahi, Indirani and Chamundi were having a bath a few rouges pestered them. They cried out for help and King Mamundi immediately went to their rescue and overpowered the rouges. The Kannikas thanked Mamundi for his timely help and told him that he would be revered as their elder brother Nallannan, Nallandavar, Nalliah and Mamundi.
