Overview
DHUNA Shri Gorakh Nath Ji Temple is a Hindu Shrine situated at the Hanumangarh district, in the Indian State of Rajasthan.
About the Deity
The temple houses the idol of Bhairuji who graces here along with Lord Shiva and his family. The Dhuna of Gorkh Nathji is also present within the temple complex, thus this temple is also referred as Gorakh teela. This Dhuna of the Yogi is worshipped by his followers. A three feet high stone image of Goddess Kalika appearing in the standing posture is present in this temple complex. Adjacent to it is the black stone image of Bhairuji of the equal size. Idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Ganesha and Subramaniya are also present in this temple, other than the Samadhis (tombs) of the yogis.
About the Temple
It is believed that there were totally nine Siddhas in the Nath cult, the foremost of them being Shri Gorakh Nath, a divine yogi. This temple is considered to be the site of ascetism of Shri Gorakh Nath ji, where his fire place (Dhuna) is present till date. Shri Gogaji, a renowned saint, had met Guru Gorakh Nathji at this place and had became his prime disciple. Guru Gorakh Nathji is said to have imparted spiritual knowledge to his disciple Gogaji, who later on became a yogi hinself. A temple was also built later for Gogaji, which is merely 3 Kms to the west of this shrine.
Sri Goraknath temple does not have a circumambulatory path. Worship traditions and norms here pertain to the Nath sect. The management of this temple functions effectively to keep the temple premises clean. They also provide facilities like good drinking water, Dharmshala (free lodging), the Bhandara (Charitable food distribution) and othe basic services for the devotees visiting this temple.
Rare Fact
This shrine stands as the finest example of secular worship place where people from all religions, sects, communities, castes visit. They first pay their respects Guru Gorakhnath ji, after which they visit the tomb of Sri Gogaji.
Festivals
A large fair is organised here in the month of Bhadrapada, which attracts several hundreds of visitors from nearby states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
Custom & Traditions of Temple
The rituals and customs pertaining to the Nath cult are followed here. There is also a big kitchen (Rasoi) managed by the temple administration and many other charitable lodges for the devotees to stay. One can find chowks (traditional markets) around the temple premises.
