The Arulmigu Sugavaneshwarar Swamy Temple is located in Salem and is dedicated to God Sugavaneshwarar. The temple is located in the heart of Salem. Deities in the temple include Maheshwari, Gowmari, Vainavi, Varahi, Mahenthiri, Samundi, Valanpuri Vinayagar (Irattai Vinayagar) Iyyapan, Dhatchinamoorthy, GanGala Moorthy, Kasi Vishvanathar pancha Bootha Lingams, Saraswathi, Gajalakshmi, Sesta Devigal and God Murugan with Valli and Deivanai. In the Navagraha shrine Rahu and Sevvai have altered positions and this is a unique feature of this temple. The devotees who pray to these two planets here are said to be blessed with great job opportunities as well as good marriage alliances. This temple contains the image of God Shiva which was worshipped by the king of parrots Suka Muni, according to mythology. The Saint Poetess Avvaiyar is said to have performed miracles here and the kings from the Chola, Chera and Pandya dynasties visited this shrine to attend the wedding of Avvaiyar's adopted daughter. Shivite poets have sung many a poem in glory of this temple. This temple is around 2000 years old. The shrine dedicated to the mother Goddess Swarnambika deserves special mention. This temple has around ten types of inscriptions. Their copies are kept in government records.
