Simri Mai Temple

Overview


Next to Muzaffarpur Engineering College in Avaas Nagar there is an acclaimed "Devi Peeth", it is called Simri Mai. This sanctuary is devoted to Goddess Bhagwati. It is said that to please "Bhagwati" coconut is broken here.


Legend


History tells that long back there was an old woman who used to live in a hovel close to this place. Amid night she used to meditate for extend periods of time. She took "Samadhi" on the seventeenth day of Navratra here. From that day this place has a status of "Lokpeeth" and is well known by the name of "Simri Mai".

Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport, Patna is the nearest airport which is situated at the distance of 80 Kms from Muzaffarpur. It is one of the major airports in Bihar and connects to cities like Delhi, Ranchi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Hyderabad. Tourists can board a bus or hire a taxi to reach Muzaffarpur.

Meaning -Salutations to the Goddess who resides as Shakti in all beings.
