Swarnakadeswarar Temple

The Swarnakadeswarar Temple is located in Neivanai and is dedicated to God Swarnakadeswarar. The temple lore of this place says that once the place was very fertile with paddy fields and people were happy and prosperous. However, wealth and prosperity made people forget God. The God directed Varuna, the God of rain, to show his power on the region. Heavy floods began to threaten their safety. Lakes, tanks and all water resources began to breach. People ran to the God for salvation. The God came in the form of a youth and asked the people to bring all the paddy bags from their homes. He used these to build a dam preventing further calamity. Though the people lost their possessions, they praised the youth as their saviour. He said that God was the giver of prosperity and they should not be ungrateful to the Almighty. The young man gave them pots of gold (swarna) and advised them to recover the loss by using it. Saying this, he disappeared. The villagers were amazed. The God then appeared before them as a swaymabu. People built a temple for the God and praised him as Swarnakadeswarar "The God who gave them swarna". The God of the temple is also known as Vennai Appar. Vinayaka of the temple is God Varasiddhi Vinayaka.
