Overview
The Sri Nindra Narayana Perumal Temple is located at Thiruthangal and is dedicated to God Vishnu. It is one of the 108 Divya Desam Temples located in India.
About the Temple
This temple is praised in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham and mangalaasanam which were sang by 12 azhwar saints. According to Hindu mythology, once Goddess Sridevi, Bhoodevi and Neeladevi had a fight. They were talking about who is the most superior out of the three. Goddess Sridevi became full of anger and she decided to leave the abode of God Sriman Narayan. She left it and reached to Thirhtangal. It was here that she did her penance. God was very pleased by her devotion so he decided to give a boon to the Goddess. She was made the Hamsam of Goddess Annapoorni. As time went by, Goddess Bhoodevi and Goddess Neeladevi also accompanied Goddess Sridevi. Because of the fact that Goddess Sridevi stayed here, this temple is also known as Thiruthangal.
About the Deity
The chief deity of this temple is God Nindra Narayana Perumal. The deity stands and faces the east direction. Goddess of this temple is the Goddess Sengamala Thayaar. She is also known by the names of Annanayaki, Amiruthanayaki, Aanandhanayaki and Jambhavati. She is also in the staning posture. According to the Hindu scriputres, daughter of demon Banasura, Usha and grandson of Krishna, Anirudha got married here. The sub deities of this temple include Sri Gaudalwar, God Perumal with his consors, God Anjaneya, Goddess Andal, Sage Markendaya, Sage Brighu, Vishwakarma, Anirudha and Usha etc. The most interesting feature of this temple is that the vehicle of God Vishnu has four hands and holds a snake in of its hands. Amiruta Kalasam or the nectar pot can be seen in another hand while the other two hands are folded.
Legend and Stories
According to Hindu mythology, once there was a contest going on between Vishnu’s three consorts. The content between Sridevi, Bhoodevi and Neeladevi was to decide who is most devoted to God Vishnu. Sridevi decided to come to earth took a spot near the paddy fields and she sat down there for a long time in devotion. A lot of sages were completely inspired by it and they also started worshipping her at that place. Sridevi admitted that living alone would not be a wise decision so she engendered a water body and made God Vishny happy. God Vishnu then appeared in front of her. God Vishnu’s other two consorts Bhudevi and Neeladevi then followed Sridevi’s footsteps and acceded that Sridevi was the most devoted. God Vishnu was happy and he stayed with them at this place.

The major festivals that are celebrated in this temple are Aani Brahmotsavam, Aadipooram, Vasanthotsavam, Puratasi Garuda Seva, Chitra Pournami, Krishna Jayanthi, Navarathri, Karthikai Deepam and Vaikunda Ekadasi.
