Ram Chandra Ji Temple

Overview


Sri Ram Chandra Temple is located at Badi Chaupar, in the Jaipur district of the North Indian State of Rajasthan. This temple is primarily dedicated to Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.


About the Temple


Lord Sri Rama is believed to be the clan deity of Maharaja Sawai Jagat Singh’s Queen. The Queen is believed to have inspired the Maharaj to construct this temple for Lord Shri Ram Chandra. Other than this shrine, the Maharaja had also built a shrine dedicated to Chandreshwar Mahadeva, also called the Maaji Sahiba Chandrawata. It is said that the queen belonged to the Chandrawata clan and thus the Maharaj established this shrine here commemorating the same.

Sri Ram Chandra temple is situated in a corner of a busy locality and is enroute Hawa Mahal, a famous tourist attraction in Jaipur. The temple is a magnificent structure which is around 250 years old and is designed to cater few other purposes, in addition to religious ones.

The temple predominantly reflects the Jaipur style of architecture, which is a perfect blend of Hindu, Jain, Mughal architectures. The shrine boasts of well crafted Jharokhas, brackets, chhajjas and roof. Marble carvings add elegance to the temple. A domical roof and a bunch of small domes present an attractive exterior. Stone and lime jail works in the building add grace to the structure.


Rare Fact


One amazing feature of this temple is its vastness, almost covering an acre of land. The temple building has several shops in the front, with ornamental frontage with lattices and lattice windows. The front portals and the main gates are attractive too.

Patotsava, Annakuta and Janamashthami are the main festivals celebrated in this shrine.
