Overview
Sri Goverdhan Nath Temple is a Vishnu shrine situated at Hawa Mahal Rd, in the Jaipur district of Rajasthan State, India.
About the deity
The chief deity of this shrine is Lord Vishnu who graces here as Lord Krishna along with his divine lover Radha. The vigrahas of the deities are made up of Metal. Since Lord Krishna had lifted the Govardhana Hill to save the lives of people and cattle from the incessant rains at Brindhavan, he is also fondly called by the name Govardhan Nath..
About the Temple
The Rulers of Jaipur are well known for their spiritual inclinations and beliefs. Many rulers had incorporated several temples at Jaipur, as part of town planning, according to which this temple at Hawa Mahal Road was also built. This temple is built following the Havely style of architecture. The deities here graces from a jhoola (Swing), which is elaborately decorated. It is believed that the divine couple, Krishna and Radha enjoyed swinging in the joola during the rains in the month of Sawan.
Rare Fact
The entrance to this shrine is found next to the gate of the famous Hawa Mahal. One can find open chowks around the temple premise. The temple has intricately carved marble pillars and a Jagmohan (worship hall). Floral patterns and other designs made of plasters adorns the ceilings and walls, making the temple look elegant and attractive.
Festivals
Janamashtami, Radha Ashtami and Annakuta are some of the prominent festivals of the temple. Special darshans of the Lord Krishna and Sri Radha swinging in the Joola are organised in the Hindu month of Sawan.
