Anchumana Temple

Overview


The deity of God Shakti is worshipped at the Anchumana Temple which is located at Edapally in Ernakulam, Karnataka. The temple is situated in Anchumana, Padivattom on the National Highway 47 at Edapally, near Cochin. The temple’s structure is very attractive and consists of several shrines. The main deities enshrined in the temple are of Goddess Sree Bhuvaneswary, Goddess Sree Annapurneswary and Goddess Sree Bhadrakali. It is believed that these deities influence not only the material level of the devotees but also the spiritual level.

The devotees worship Goddess Sree Bhuvaneswary as she is referred as the mother of the universe who blesses her children with protection and prosperity. Goddess Sree Annapurneswary and Deergha Sumangala Varadayani bless the devotees with abundance and long happy life. Goddess Sree Bhadrakali is believed to protect her devotees from the negative forces and evils.


About The Temple


As per the history, this temple initially belonged to the Royal Namboothiry family. As their empire declined, the ownership of this temple was given to the Viswakarma society and is presently administered by a trustee of Anchumana Viswakarma Dharmodharana Samajam. There are twenty-two branches at the Districts of Kottayam, Ernakulam and Alapuzha. The deities of God Ganapathy, God Ayyappa, God Subramanya, God Nagadevatha, God Hidumba Swamy, God Hanuman, God Brahmarakshas, God Arukola and God Khandakara Swamy are enshrined and worshipped at this temple.

The devotees offer various kinds of gifts to the deities in the temple. A prayer called Vivahasooktha Pushpanjali is conducted in the temple in front of God Annapurna Swamy on every Monday to help discard obstacles in marriages of girls. Another prayer called Guruthi Pushpanjali is conducted on every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday as a penance for devotees facing problems in their daily life.

On the Malayalam New Year, devotees are provided leaves called NIRA on the first day Chingam. It is believed to be a symbol of God’s blessings towards a wealthy and life. A mass prayer is also conducted in front of Goddess Bhuvaneswary every Friday. A mass of devotees chant Sree Lalitha Sahasranama sthothram on every Tuesday and Friday.

The chief priest of this temple is Brahmasree Puliyannur Sasi Namboothiripad. Every last Tuesday of the month, the priest performs a Thanthri Pooja. During the festival of Navarathri, the books of students are kept before Goddess Saraswathy during the prayers. The devotees from nearby villages also visit to get the blessings of Gods during Parayeduppu which goes on for 41 days, beginning with Vrischikam and finishing with 5 days celebration of Thalappoli Maholsavam. The temple is closed for 7 days after this festival and then again resume with the daily routine.

The deity of God Sree Ayyappa Swami is offered Panchadraya Abhishekam on all Uthram days and the same is offered to God Sree Subramania Swami on Sukla Shashti days. The deity of God Nagadevatha is offered Noorum paalum on Ayilyam days. Special prayers are offered to God Hanuman on full moon days and a grand prayer on the last day of Thulam is also conducted each year.

Festivals


The festivals Chingam, Navrathri, Thula Shatri, Vrischikam, Mandalakaalam, Makara Pooyam, Kumbham, Meenam and Hrishi panchami are celebrated in the temple with great joy. During the festival of Mandalakaalam, a five day Thalappoli festival is celebrated with lots of colours and Ezhunnellippu can be seen with five elephants on the last day.
