Sri Rayeshwar Kavur Kamakshi Kala Bhairav Temple

Overview


The Kumta Shri Rayeshwar Kavoor Kamakshi is located near Murukatte at Kumta in Uttara Kannada District. This shrine enshrines Shri Kavoor Kamakshi as the principal deity. Subsidiary shrines for Shri Rayeshwar and Shri Kalabhairav are seen in the temple complex.


Fairs and Festivals


In this temple, 'Foundation Day' Phalgun Shukla Saptami (March) and Navaratri are celebrated. On the 15th day i.e. on Poornima of Ashwayuj month there is a get-together of the Kulavees. Approx. 3000 People participate. Vada Seva is the Holy programme of Poornima. Vadas are prepared from the flour of rice. Darshan Patris put their palms into the boiling oil and take out the vadas without any harm. This is possible on account of Super Shakti of the Deity.

Kumta does not have an airport and Dambolin Airport in Vasco da Gama (156 kms) serves as the nearest international airport to the town. Mangalore International Airport (210 kms) is another option to reach this beach town. Hubli Airport is the nearest domestic airport to Kumta. Kumta is well connected to its neighbouring cities and other major cities of India via Konkan Railways. Buses owned by North West Karnataka Transport Corporation (NWKTC) along with luxury private buses runs regularly within the state and between the neighbouring states as well. The service connects Kumta to cities like Mangalore, Belgaum, Mysore, Bangalore and Hubli-Dharwad.
