Sri Pushparatheswara Swami Temple

The Sri Pushparatheswara Swami Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in Gnayury, in Sholavaram. The Sri Karunambika Sametha Sri Pushparatheswara Swami Kshetram is especially worshipped as “Bhaskara (Gnayiru) Kshetra”. The temple is located at ten kilometers from Red Hills, towards the North, via Pudhur, Arumanthai. The temple is associated with Sundaramurthy Nayanar and Sangili Nachiyar. In Gnayiru, Surya Theertha is famous for being a means that assists the recovery of individuals from long illnesses. Whoever worships this temple is guaranteed a peaceful life without any diseases and hurdles. The Gnayiru Eswaran temple is one of the oldest Shiva temples in India. Legend says that due to a curse, the Sun God asked to worship Lord Shiva in this temple and the Sun God started to worship him in Chittirai, the first Tamil month that starts from April 14 behind this temple There was a small pond with water that had medicinal powers that could cure skin and eye related diseases. This temple is situated at about 16 kilometres from the Madhavaram bridge. Frequent bus services are available from Red Hills and Parry’s, and from there, onwards to Gnayiru. It was a beautiful temple situated in suburban Chennai. The temple is surrounded by paddy fields.
