About The Temple

There are many inscriptions seen on the outer walls of the main corridor (Prakaram). On the wall facing south, an inscription, in Tamil dating back to 1105AD, records the consecration of a temple and a gift of oil for two lamps. Another inscription dating to the same year tells offerings and lamps.
An inscription on the wall facing north of the Nachiyar temple dating back to 1070AD describes the rule of Kulothunga I. The original idol of the procession deity of the Laxmi Narasimma temple at Narasingapuram is believed to be belonging to the early Pallava period (6th-8th century AD) and at least 1400 years old.

About The Deity

Narasimma here is one with a smiling face and is referred to as Shantha Moorthy. Another speciality at this temple is the posture of MahaLaxmi, who is seen facing the devotees. In typical Narasimma temples, the goddess is seen pacifying and cooling the angry Lord (Ugra Moorthy) and hence her face is turned Him. Since the Lord is seen here as a calm person, she has turned her attention to the devotees, blessing them.
MahaLaxmi Thaayar and Lord Narasimma are seen embracing each other. Hence, the Lord is referred to as Kalyana Laxmi Narasimmar. Opposite the Laxmi Narasimma temple is the west facing Anjaneya Sannidhi. The speciality of this deity is his tail is twirled back on to his head.
