Sri Chidambareswarar Temple

Overview : Sri Chidambareswarar temple is a Shiva temple which is located in the small village named Kulasekarapattinam, in the district of Thoothukudi, in the state of Tamil Nadu in Southern India. The Lord of the Chidambara temple is Lord Shiva in the dancing pose called Nataraja. The word Chidambaram may be derived from the combination of the words chit and ambalam. Ambalam is used to denote the dais for performing arts. The chidakasam is the state of transcendental bliss and Lord Natarajar is the symbolic representation of this aananda natanam. The sthala vriksham of this temple is the vilvam tree. The holy water (theertham) of this temple is Changu theertham. The agamam or pooja of this temple is known as Karana Agama. This temple is nearly 1000 to 2000 years old. The erstwhile name of this place is Kulasekarapattinam. It is one of the most sought after temple in this region. Among the local residents, this shrine is known as kalpavriksha (temple which fulfils wishes) and kaanikai (offerings of thanks) is given wholeheartedly by the disciples and pilgrims alike. On the eve of Shivarathri and other festive occasions, special pujas and rituals are conducted. This temple is frequented by a large gathering for various prayers and worship. Though this village is far away from the city, easy access is available through roadways.
