Pampapati Aalayam

Pampapati Aalayam is a renowned temple located at Hospet in Bellary district. Popularly known as Virupaksha Aalayam, this temple is dedicated to Lord Virupaksha, one of the many forms of Lord Shiva. The enclosure walls and tall towers give a special appearance to this temple. Galigopuram, the eleven storied majestic gopuram, is the major draw here. The ceiling and walls of the shrine are adorned with sculptural marvels. The temple also houses an imposing shivling. In sculptural excellence and architecture, Pampapati Aalayam follows the Vijayanagar style. Ramaswamy Aalayam and Vijaya Vittalaswamy Aalayam are nearby attractions.
