About the Temple


This temple belongs to the Shakta Sect with Mata Durga, the Goddess of Shakti. Rao Bikaji was the founder of Bikaner. He belonged to the Jodhpur royal family when he left Jodhpur and came to find Bikaner, he brought with him fourteen royal and sacred emblems, one of them was Mahishasur Mardini Naganechi Ji. This idol was enshrined in this temple. The Goddess is said to be the clan Goddess of the Rathore dynasty.

Built on a high mound, the splendid temple has a high Shikhar. The sanctum sanctorum (Garbha graha) and portico, sabhakaksha are made of red stone of Dulmera while the front gate of sanctum sanctorum is of white marble.


Rare Fact


This is one of the oldest temples of Bikaner. In the old times, people were allowed go to the temple for darshan in Junagarh. But now entry is restricted. The temple itself looks like a Citadel.

Navratras in the month of Chaitra and also Navratras in the month of Ashwina.
