Muralidhar Temple

Situated about 20 yards south of the Gora Rama temple, the shrine of this Muralidhar temple has a group of cleverly cut marble figures about 1 meter high. The idol of Muralidhar stands on one foot, with a flute in his hand and is flanked by cattle, two cows with a calf each. The Hingne family brought this idol from Chandori. Dada Bava built this temple in 1828. Several sati platforms, that were present between this temple and the Gora Rama temple, were washed away when the Godavari flooded. A nama-saptaha i.e. reciting the God’s names is held for 7 days from the first of Shravana Vadya (July-August). The God of the temple is dressed in different robes during these 7 days and songs are sung continuously. A palanquin procession (Dindi) beginning from 3 in the afternoon till 9 at night, takes place on the 11th of the same fortnight. 500 Brahmans and cymbal players are given a feast the following day. Hari Damodar has been appointed as the Vahivatdar (Manager).
