Overview
The deity of God Shiva is worshipped at the ancient Lankeshwar Temple located in Bojhar at Guwahati, Assam. The temple is constructed on top of a hill near the campus of Guwahati University. The temple is named after one of the many forms of God Shiva that is ‘Lankeshwar’. Thousands of devotees from all over the nation visit this temple to seek God Shiva’s blessings as it is considered one of the sacred temples.

As per a legend, one of the forms of God Shiva is Lankeshwar. According to the stories of Hindu mythology, King Ravana of Lanka worshipped God Shiva at this very place. The region is known as Lankeshwar due to this reason. The temple building contains engravings about religious significance. The temple was constructed by the King of Guwahati several years ago. Most of the devotees visit this temple for the sacred blessings of the God and it is believed that all sins of a person are removed once they step into the temple.
