Overview
Shri Bihari Ji Temple is located in Bharatpur district in Rajasthan. This temple is dedicated to Lord krishna.
About The Deity
As it has been mentioned above that his idol of Lord Krishna was received by a Naga Sadhu at Kadamba Khandi, hence popular belief holds it that the status was a self-borne one. Some others believe that it was Lord Krishna’s own creation. The black stone idol of Lord Krishna is 4 ft. high and it holds a flute to its lips. Thus the statue is that of Lord Krishna playing with a flute.
About the Temple
According to the prevalent belief, hundreds of years ago at Kadamba Khandi near Kaman in Braj, a Naga sage Chatur Chintamani was practicing asceticism. He was wholly dedicated to Lord Krishna. The lord was pleased with the sage and he gave him his own idol. Chatur Chintamani was going to Jaipur with that idol but on his way at Bharatpur the idol would not go further. This made Chintamani think that the Lord wanted to have his shrine there. Following this, the idol was installed at a shrine in the fort of Bharatpur and the king constructed a temple there.
The temple belongs to the Nimbark Sect of Vaishnavs. The front portion of the temple is made of almond colour stone of Bansi pahadpur. On either side of the main gate we have latticed windows which have a very delicate carving work. On entering the temple, there is a vast court yard to the left of which an elevated height is the Jagmohan (Prayer Hall) of the temple. In the sactum sanctorum, there are magnificent idols of Shri Bankey Behariji and Shri Radha Rani.. On the outer panels on gargbha griha various Gods and Goddesses have been carved in relief.
The temple is a center of faith for all Hindus and commands respect on all people around. Men, Women, Children and all people – all come to the temple for darshan of the Lord.
