Overview
The temple is located at Gandhi Chowk in the Dharwad district of Karnataka. It helps the devotees and the tourists to approach the shrine from all the corners of the country.
About The Temple
The Dattatreya temple belongs to the 12th century. It exhibits the Chalukyan style of architecture, making it one of the best structural temples in the state of Karnataka. The temple complex also has a century old Shankaracharya Samskrita Pathashala.
About The deity
The temple is dedicated to Lord Dattatreya, who is believed to be an incarnation of Hindu Trinity. The Hindu trinity is Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara. In the Dattatreya temple, the deity displays three heads depicting the three gods.
Festivals
The people believe that Dattatreya Swamy comes alive on his birthday and therefore celebrates his birthday as Datt Jayanthi in a grand manner. Rathostava or Chariot pulling marks the conclusion of the festival.
How to Reach Gandhi Chawk
There is no airport in Dharwad. The nearest airport to Dharwad is located in Hubli which is 20 km from this city. From the airport you can get a taxi or bus to reach Dharwad. Flights to Mumbai and Bangalore are available from Hubli. Dharwad railway station is located nearly 3 km from city and all the major trains come to the city directly. It is the most convenient way to reach Dharwad. Dharwad is well connected to other major cities of the country via regular buses.
