Narasimha Temple

The village of Anji is more popularly known as Anji-Narasimha, owing to a fine Narasimha temple in the village that is built in the Hemadpanti style. According to the story of Narasimha, neither man nor animal with weapons could defeat the demon Hiranya Kashyap, by night or day. Thus, Lord Vishnu took the form of Narasimha, where He had the face of a lion, the body of a man and long nails as weapons. He attacked the demon at twilight and was able to defeat it because it was neither night nor day, nor was He a man or an animal and he had no weapons. A fine idol of Narasimha, tearing the demon to pieces with his nails, is present in the sanctuary. The rays of the sun hit the feet of the idol in the morning, through a small hole in the wall of the temple.
