About the Temple


The temple is a large structure facing the North. The temple houses Sri Siddhalingeswara Swami, a lump of Vibhuthi (sacred ash), is covered by Linga Kanhe form. Placed on top of this is a metallic sculpture that is used during procession. The temple has a large wooden chariot. Near the temple’s main door are some inscriptions. The beautifully colour ‘Gopura’ of the temple depicts various incidents of Sri Siddhalingeswara Swami’s life. At the basement of the main sanctum is a small shrine of Sri Veerabhadhra Swami who is also looked upon with great respect and worshipped by people.


Legend and Stories


Yediyoor is the final destination of Sri Siddhalingeswara Swami. He was not born out of a woman’s womb but, appeared as an infant. He was brought up by a childless couple, Mallikarjuna and Jnanambe. He travelled extensively preaching eternal truth. He is a renowned author and Virashaiva teacher. He was also a chief of the Murugi Mutt. Abode of Sri Siddhalingeswara Swami’s large number of disciples, Yediyoor is considered to be a seat of awakened spirituality.


Festivals


Every year the temple holds a 15 day long ‘Jathra’, to mark the attainment of Samadhi by Sri Siddhalingeswara Swami is conducted. During Maha Shivarathri, a Hindu festival, Sahasra Rudrabhisheka is performed at the temple.

The last day of Karthika month is celebrated by lighting Laksha Deepa (one lakh lamps) around the temple. During the month of Shravana special pujas namely Sahasra Kamala pooja and Laksha Bilvarchana pooja are performed. On every new moon day, Kumbhabhisheka is performed in the temple. The annual car festival is held by the temple on the 7th lunar day of the Chitra.
