Veerataneswarar Temple

Indira the ruler of Devas went to Mount Kailash to have Shiva darshan with the pride of a lord. In the appearance of a guard, Lord Shiva kept him from continuing further. Glad Indira hit Shiva with His vajrayutha when Lord opened His temple eye. Understanding the guard was Shiva, Indira fell at His feet and looked for His absolution. Master Shiva spilled a drop of His sweat in the milk sea from where an evil spirit kid was conceived. The youngster pulled the whiskers of Lord Brahma who cried in torment. His tears likewise fell on the kid. The youngster wet with Shiva's sweat, Brahma's tears and the milk's drop sea was named Jalandarasura.

When He developed, he requested Brahma an existence without death and the three's tenet universes. Brahma denied it. To cure Him, Lord Shiva sowed a seed at the spot where Brinda smoldered herself. Tulsi plant developed. A wreath was made of the Tulsi leaves and put on Lord Vishnu. He was cured totally. Ruler Vishnu requested that Lord Shiva blessing Him the Chakra-disk. He revered Lord Shiva with thousand lotus blooms. When He found that the number was short by two, He unhesitatingly took His eyes for the puja. Satisfied Shiva compensated Lord Vishnu with the Chakra.
