Overview


Angadi is a small village located in the Chikmagalur district of Karnataka. Kannada is the language that is widely spoken in Karnataka. The word Angadi typically means ‘shop’ in Kannada. This village is mostly surrounded by open agricultural fields and coffee plantations. Angadi is the birth place of the Hoysala dynasty, who rose to great power in South India. The kingdom of Hoysala is most popular for its excellent architectures. The place is also mentioned as Sasakapura or Sosevgur.

The village of Angadi is most popular for the Vasantha Parameshwari Temple which is located on a hillock. This temple has beautiful pillars made of granite. The pillars have cylindrical beams and hemi spherical moldings. The temple has been renovated and well maintained. Angadi has ruins of three other temples dedicated to Lord Keshava, Lord Veerabhadra and Lord Mallikarjuna respectively.
