Vaideeswaran Temple

The Vaideeswararn Temple is located in Chidambaram and is dedicated to God Shiva. Devotees get darshan of God Shiva as God Vaidyanathan, Goddess Thaiyalnayaki and God Murugan as Muthukumaran. The temple is famous for its healing potential. Saiva saints namely Thirugnana Sambandar, Thirunavukarasar and Arunagirinadhar had sung devotional songs about the deities of this temple. In this temple, the Navagraha - nine planets - by virtue of losing their powers are placed in a straight line. This temple is where devotees flock to worship Sevvai - Mars - and therefore is also known as Sevvai Sthalam. God Rama is said to have cremated Jatayu here. Eighteen thirthas inclusive of disease - curing Siddhamirtha thirtha is also here. This tank is inside the temple. The glory of the God of the temple is praised by a host of saints and pundits as Tirugnana Sambandar, Tirunavukkarasar, Arunagirinathar, Kumara Guruparar, Chidambara Munivar, Ramalinga Adigal, Padikkasu Thambiran, Kalamega Pulavar and Vaduganatha Desikar of Darumapura Aadheenam. This is the 16th God Shiva Temple on the northern bank of Cauvery praised in Thevaram and Tirupugazh hymns.
