Tirukodikaval Eswarar Temple

The Tirukodikaval Eswarar Temple is located in Tirukkodika and is dedicated to God Tirukodikaval Eswarar. The presiding deity at this temple is known as Kodeeswarar or Kodinathar while the main Goddess is Thiripurasundari or Vadivambigai. Ganesh in the temple is also known as Karai Etrum Vinayagar. There is a separate shrine for Chitragupta and God Yama here. God Sani here is called as Balasani who has a Linga on his head. The temple is very famous for relieving sins. It is said that three crore Rishis were came here and prayed to the God by chanting three crore mantras to be relieved of from sins. The temple gopuram stands majestically with 5 tiers. On entering, one can see Kodimaram, Kodimara Vinayagar, Balibheeta and Nandhi inside the temple. In front of the mandapam there is a shrine for Ambal shrine. Goddess Vadivambigai is seen here in standing form. Inside the prakaram one can see Karai Etrum Vinayagar, Mayilvahanar, Sivamoorthi, Gajalakshmi, Jeshtadevi, Kalabhairavar, Natarajar, Dhakshninamoorthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai. At the end, one can see Sanibhagwan with his wife Jeshtadevi, son Manthi and daughter Mantha in a single stone inscription. Mantha holds a lotus flower in his hand and Manthi has a rishaba face. There are Shivalingas representing the four vedas such as Rig, Yajur, Saama and Atharvana. Ganesha of this place is known as karai atrum vinayakar. Nataraja idol is made of stone here which is rare thing. Chitragupta and Yama have separate sanctum here.

Meaning -We worship the fragrant Lord Shiva, who has 3 eyes and who cultivates all beings. May He free me from death, for immortality, as even a cucumber is separated from its bond with the vine.
