Overview
Sree Dharma Sastha Temple is a renowned shrine, situated at Thycaud in Thiruvananthapuram,which is the capital city of the State Kerala. The temple is located near the Govt. Model School and Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram. This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Dharma Sastha, who is popularly called Lord Ayyappa Swamy. The temple is located at a distance of about 8 kms from the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport and the Central Railway Station. The Bus Station is 1.5 km away from the temple. The temple administration is taken care by the Nair Service Society. Huge number of devotees throngs this Dharma Sastha temple every day.
About The Deity
The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Ayyappa Swamy. Other deities in the temple include Lord Ganapathy, Lord Vishnu, Durga Devi, Lord Hanuman Swamy, Lord Subramanya Swamy and the Navagrahas.
Festivals
Mandala-Makaravilakku which is the most auspicious festival for Lord Dharma Sastha, is primarily celebrated in this temple. Festivals like Shivarathri, Navarathri, Thaipooyam, Ashtami Rohini, Hanuman Jayanthi are also celebrated with much gala and devotion.
Offerings
Various holy rituals such as the yagna and poojas are performed to the deities in this temple. Muzhukappu, Pushpanjali, Aravana Payasam, Panchamritham, Paalpayasam, etc are offered to the deity by the devotees. Neerajanam is an important offering which is provided on all Saturdays, for which large number of devotees throng the temple. Ganapathi Homams and ‘Navagraha Pooja' are also performed by the devotees in this temple.
