Thirunakkara Mahadevan temple

Overview


The Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple, in Kottayam town, was constructed in the sixteenth century by Thekkumkoor Raja. This is one of the acclaimed sanctuaries of Kottayam. The principle divinity is Lord Shiva Amidst the Kottayam city, lays the fabulous Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple that is around 500 years of age. Worshipped to Lord Shiva, the sanctuary was built five centuries back by the local ruler of Thekkumkoor. Sanctuary of Lord Ganesha can be seen here too. USP of the sanctuary is its insides that are adorned with sketches and wall paintings which portrays about the stories of the fanciful period. Inside the principle sanctuary, there is a Shiva Linga which is around six creeps high and to one side, there is a little symbol of goddess Parvati. Field in the principle building called Koothambalam serves as a middle stage for any move and social exhibitions. On the dividers of the field, one can see compositions and wall paintings delineating stories from the mythological books.


About The Temple


The customary Kerala design of the sanctuary pulls in a ton of guests. The koothambalam, the customary theater of the sanctuary, where exhibitions of different conventional craftsmanship and dance structures are held in celebration around the world for its engineering. Paintings delineating stories from the legends enhance the dividers of the sanctuary.


Festivals


The yearly celebration of the sanctuary, Phalguna Utsavam, falls in the Malayalam month of Meenam (March/April) and goes on for 10 days. The celebration attracts to a nearby with the ceremonial arattu that incorporates a parade of caparisoned elephants. Different sanctuary expressions and social projects are put on show as a major aspect of the celebration. The other two celebrations of the sanctuary fall in the month of Thulam (October/November) and Mithunam (June/July).

Meaning -We worship the fragrant Lord Shiva, who has 3 eyes and who cultivates all beings. May He free me from death, for immortality, as even a cucumber is separated from its bond with the vine.

The temple is open from 4:00 AM to 11:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Open all days.
