About The Temple
The temple is famous for its religious significance and for its amazing architecture. In the main sanctum sanctorum, devotees can see two sacred idols which are made of important Krishna Sila. The architecture of this sacred Hindu worship place is a fine example of Thanjavoor and Kerala styles. The important sanctum sanctorum is a double storied structure built of Krishna sila and is fully covered with eliminating brass sheets. Another important attraction of the temple is its stone pillars which are decorated with attractive mythological sculptures.
Legend and Stories
The sacred Thattayil Orippurathu Bhagavathy Kshetram Mandir or temple has an important history of more than a thousand years. It is said that the temple was constructed during the 17th century. The sacred script in Arya Language on the stone in the temple also indicate that it is one thousands year old. According to records, the annual festival of the temple had been started during the 18th of century.
Trivandrum international airport is the nearest airport situated only 100 km distance from the town. Chengannur railway station, Cherivanad railway station, Auvaneswsarem railway station and Tiruvalla railway station are the important railway stations in the city. Pathanamthitta is highly connected with other cities by road. It is only 103 km distance from state capital Thiruvananthapuram. KSRTC or Kerala state road transport runs regular buses from all important cities to towns and remote villages in the district.
