Swarnapureeswar Temple

The Swarnapureeswar Temple is located in Therku Poigainallur and is dedicated to God Swarnapureeswar. The legend states that traders in Nagapattinam once wished to build a temple for Chelliamman in a place that was originally a forest. They prepared the idols. While digging the foundation for the temple in Therku Poigainallur, they recovered idols of God Muruga, Valli, Deivanai and other deities. When they cut down a tree close to the current Ambica shrine, they found idols of the Goddess as well as other deities. They installed the idols they had made within the temple and the others outside the temple. They named the presiding deities God Swarnapureeswarar and Mother Periyanaki. Goddess Chelliamman is the guardian deity. The temple also has shrines for God Vinayaka, God Muruga with Valli and Deivanai and the guardian deity Chelliamman.
