Lord Shiva who was meditating heard the voice of Parvati. Assuming that She was in trouble, He threw his trident towards the demon and killed him. He then realized His mistake soon and offered the demon his life back. The demon wanted to die at the hands of Lord Shiva. Therefore, the site was known as 'Sudh Mahadev'.
