Sri Vanduthurainathar Temple

Overview


Sri Vandurai Nathar temple is located in the city of Tiruvandurai, Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu and is about 1000-2000 years old. One of the 276 Thevara Paadal petra sthalams. Located on 9 kilometres East of Mannargudi with a Northward diversion at Mazhavarayanallur. The temple is open from 8.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and from 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. Lord of the temple is commended by Saint Tirugnana Sambandar in his Thevaram songs. This the 112th Shiva temple on the southern bank of Cauvery lauded in psalms.


About The Temple


The temple is facing east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram. Mother is facing south. Lords Vinayaka, Muruga, Arthanareeswara, Dakshinamurthy, Brahma, Bhairava, Viswanatha, Bikshadana, Chandikeswara, planets Sun and Moon and Sani Bhagwan, Mother Durga, and Navagrahas have their shrines around the prakara. Bitchadanar in the praharam is a beauty.


About The Deity


Brungi as honey bee Vandu in Tamil-venerated Lord in this temple, subsequently the place's name as Tiru Vandu Thurai-Tiruvandurai. It is said that the sound of a Vandu is still heard in Lord's sanctum. Ruler Vishnu set up the estimation of Shiva Puja in this temple. At the point when Brahma the Creator confronted inconvenience in his employment, He appealed to Lord Shiva in this temple to defeat the obstructions. Ruler Dhruva, Angavan, Harichandra, Thyaga Cholan child of Musukunda Cholan had venerated Lord in this temple. Nangai, a lady Sage saw all particles of sand in this spot and would not have liked to place her legs here and loved Lord confronting north. In view of this story, Nandhi the bull vehicle of Lord is facing north in the front mandap.


Legend and Stories


Sage Brungi was resolved not to venerate any god but rather Lord Shiva. Knowing his goal, Mother Parvathi dried the fragile living creature and blood of the sage. Yet the sage kept venerating Shiva alone. Master favored the Sage. Mother Parvathi revered Lord Shiva and involved the left 50% of His body. Indeed, even at this stage, the sage took the type of a honey bee, entered into the Shiva piece of the Arthanareeswara shape and preceded with his Shiva adore. Desparate Parvathi reviled the sage to stay in the honey bee shape just. The sage looked for alleviation from the condemnation. Mother Parvathi told the Sage that Shiva and Shakti were indivisible and prompted him to love them together for alleviation.

Tamil New Year Day falling very nearly on April 14; Vaikasi Visakam in May-June; Aadi Pooram and Fridays in July-August; Vinayaka Chaturthi in August-September; Navarathri in September-October; Skanda Sashti in October-November; Tirukarthikai and Mondays in the month in November-December; Tiruvadhirai in December-January; Shivrathri in February-March; Panguni Uthiram in March-April, Monthly Pradoshams are the temple's celebrations with exceptional pujas.
