Sri Gangadareswarar Temple

The Sri Gangadareswara is located in Purusaivalkam and is dedicated to God Shiva. Sri Gangadareswara is the other name for God Shiva. In order to help Bhageeratha, the God is said to have held river Ganga in his jadamudi (dreadlocks) and later let it to be flown on to the earth. Shiva is seen with his consort Pankajakshi, who faces the South. The God faces the east and is found under Purasai tree. The area is devoid of water scarcity as it was believed that the God is still holding her. Emperor Bhageeratha and God Anjaneya have worshipped and attained the grace of this God. Buses run in the street where the temple is situated. Ambal Pankajakshi is facing south and blessing her devotees. As a sign of God Siva holding the Ganges, water is found in the tank here, all round the year.
