Sri Aiyaarappar Temple

The Aiyarappar Temple is located in Parry’s Corrner and is dedicated to God Shiva. There were 24 Shaiva Brahmins in Thiruvaiyar who were authorized to perform the worship services to the deity. One of them undertook a trip to Banaras. As he didn't return, the remaining 23 Brahmins took over his properties. To teach the Shaivites a lesson, God Shiva took an avatar to make them understand what they did was wrong. Thiruvaiyar is one among the six Shiva sthala on the banks of River Cauvery that are considered holy on par with Banaras. The other five are - Thiruvenkadu, Sayavanam, Mayiladuthurai, Thiruvidaimaruthur and Thiruvanjiyam. There are separate temples with east facing sannadhis for both the God and his consort. Moolavar Aiyaarappar is a Swayambhu lingam. As it is a Prithvi Lingam, there's no Abhishekam for it. The Goddess Dharmasamvardhini is also known as Aram valartha nayaki.
