Legend and Stories

The temple is inadvertently called SreeVallabha Temple. The deity of the Malayinkeezhu temple resembles in all its characteristics of the idol of Sree Vallabha Temple of Thiruvalla. It is also important to note that the administrators of Thiruvalla temple (Mecheri, Vilakkinimangalam and Ilamon Namboodiries) were the administrators of this temple also. It is believed that Kannasa Madhava Panicker translated the Bhagavat Gita into Malayalam during the period between 1400 and 1500 A.D., while he stayed and worshipped in the temple. This was the first ever translation of Bhagavat Gita into any of the Indian languages. Historical evidences show that the temple was renovated in the year 1795 A.D. Till recently, women devotees were not allowed to enter into the temple.
