SHRI VINAYAKA DEVARU

Overview : Idagunji Devasthana is Vinayaka temple located in Honnavara taluk,Uttar Kannada district.It is nearly 1500 years old.When the Dwapara Yuga ended great saints prayed to the Sutha-Pouranika at Badarikashrama.It was strongly suggested by Shri Krishna to eradicate the doshas of Kaliyuga which are upcoming in the future. The great saint, Valakhilya started narrating the importance of Kunjavana.Penitential activities were being performed in the forest by Valakhilya along with other immortal saints.Various hindrance were being faced in these activities.Narada reached Valakhilya and received affectionate and satiate welcome with the due customs.Narada was told about the difficulties of Valakhilya and requested for some solution.Narada suggested him to pray to lord Vigneshwara before initiating the penance again.Valakhilya urged Narada to show him a suitable place to worship the deity.Narada together with Valakhilya plus other saints went westward in hunt of a fit place. Sharavati river was seen by them which gracefully caressed as well as consolidated with the ocean.A place few miles left of Sharavati was pointed out by Narada which was called Kunjaranya.To increase its importance Narada told in the past the Holy Trinity, Brahma and Harihar have visited the place to execute their penance to stop the demolition of the Asuras.Lakes like Brahmatirtha and Chakratirtha were also created by them.After telling the significance Narada too built a lake Devatirtha with the help of the saints. Brahma,Vishnu and Maheshwara wewre invited by Narada for the pooja at Kunjaranya offered by the saints.Parvathi was requested by Narada to send Ganapathi for the elimination of obstacles.The temple is devoted for this and was decorated with beautiful decor and the massive glittering diamonds in addition to stones. Hymns in admiration of Lord Ganapathi were chanted by great saints and Heavenly beings. Ganapathi, marvelously attired, was having Modhaka and Padma in his both the hands. Ganapathi expressed his wish to grant the desires of his devotees after enormous pleases by the devoutness rendered on him by the saints.Other gods too blessed their worshippers. As the other gods were moving back to their places Ganpathi stayed back and asked the others to leave after a part of their sagacious power in the several lakes contained there.

Meaning -The sun to Mother Parvati's lotus face, I worship Lord Ganesh, with the elephant face, the one who grants a lot of wishes, the one with the single tusk, I salute thee to grant my wish.

Gajaananam Bhoota Ganaadhi Sevitam Kapitta Jamboophaala Saara Bhakshitam Umaasutam Shoka Vinaasha Kaaranam Namaami Vighneswara Paada Pankajam

Meaning -Oh elephant-faced Lord, who is served by all the Ganas, who consumes the essence of Kapitta and Jamboophala, His favourite fruits, who is Uma's son, who destroys the gloom of His devotees, who handles hurdles, we worship your lotus feet.

Tatpurushaaya Vidmahe Vakratundaaya Dheemahe Tanno Danthihi Prachodayaat

Meaning -We meditate on the great power, we call upon the single tusked Ganesh, who grants wishes.
