Overview
Shri Laxmi Nath temple is located in Bikaner district in Rajasthan. This temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu who graces here as Lord Laxmi Nath.
About the Deity
The presiding deities of this shrine are Lord Lakxmi Nath and his consort goddess Lakshmi, who graces from the main sanctum sanctorum. Their vigrahas (idols) appear to be in the embracing posture. This vigraha is about one and a half feet high and is seen placed on a square shaped stone pedestal.
About the Temple
Traditionally, the rulers of the Princely State of Bikaner had regarded Lord Laxminathji as the actual King of Bikaner, while considering themselves only as the Lord's regents or Deewans (Ministers). Thus they built this temple enshrining the throne of Lord Laxminath, symbolically indicating that the Lord is the real ruler of that State. The temple's architecture is quite fascinating with several artistically carved sculptures.
Lord Vishnu, the divine preserver of this universe, is the chief deity of this temple. The temple is governed by Rajasthan State Government’s Devasthan Vibhag.
The temple primarily follows Sri Vaishnava Sampradhaya (Traditional Norms) and hence prayers to the deity are offered as per Sri Vaishnava traditions. Other than this, a special bhajan rendered by Sri Meera Bai is also sung here in praise of the Lord.
The following is an extract of the bhajan “Girdhari, Krishna is of blackish hue and without him who else will take care of me. O' Gopal, O' Laxminathji without you who will take care of me. You are wearing a turban saffron costumes and on your breast there is garland of thousands of flowers. On your head is a crown with a peak of feather and your ears hold pendants which are extremely beautiful. In Brindavan and in Madhuwan you conducted a Raasleela (disport). Your devotee Meera Bai O' wise Lord Girdhari is the servant on your lotus feet. Oh Kunj Behari Lord Krishna, I am in your shelter”.
