Overview


Sri Bhairu ji Temple is a shrine dedicated to Lord Kala Bhairava, which is situated at Kote Gate, in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan State, India.


About the Deity


The principal deity of this temple is Lord bhairava. The deity's vigraha (idol) is about 2 feet high and is made of black stone. Lord Kala Bhairav appears sitting on his vahana dog. There is also an old statue of the deity here which is carved on a rock and is approximately 2 feet 3 inches high.


About the Temple


Lord Kala Bairava is a widely worshipped deity in the State of Rajasthan. Many shrines, especially those dedicated to Maa Durga houses a separate sub shrine for Baironji. This temple at Kole Gate, Bikaner was founded by Shri Brijraji in the year 1933. According to legends, Lord Bairava had appeared in the dreams of Sri Brijraji who was a priest and had instructed him to construct a temple for him. His Temple is often found in the devi temples. In Toliasar, the temple of Bhairuji is very very old and it command great respect from the people around. Shri Brijraji thus built a temple for the Lord accordingly. The temple subsequently started drawing devotees from the village and other nearby places, who later financially supported for the temple's extension.

Today, the temple stands as a prominent worship place right in the main road with tall main gates. The deity graces from the Garbha Graha (sanctum sanctorum) which has a round Shikar. The temple complex also encompasses a precinct and a Mandap (Prayer Hall) whose walls carry several beautiful pictures.

Lord Kala Bhairava is worshiped by many Hindus across the world with utmost faith and devotion. This deity is believed to protect his devotees from impending difficulties, risks and dangers pertaining to their life. Newly married couples visit the temple seeking the blessings of the lord for a happy married life and progeny. Some devotees also undertake to tonsure their new born child's hair here as a thanksgiving to the Lord, especially in the Hindu months of Vaishakha, Jyestha and Magha.


Festivals


During the Hindu months of Margshisha and Magh, big fairs are organised by the temple which draws thousands of visitors every year.
