Kaikini is a village in the southern state of Karnataka, India. It is located in the Bhatkal taluk of Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka. One of the ancient temple, Shree Shivamuneeshwara Shantadurga Temple, established in the year 1752, is situated in Kaikini.


About The Temple


Shri Shivamuneeshwar Shantadurga Devasthan, Kaikini, is an antiquated and intense place of worship of Holy Mother Shree Shantadurga and the holy person Shree Shivamuni, having a place with KAIKINI Family of Chitrapur Saraswat Community, situated in Kaikini Village of Bhatkal Taluk, Karnataka State, Seven Kilo Meters North of Shri Chitrapur Math, Shirali. This Holy Shrine is devoted to Goddess Shri Shantadurga. The very area of the temple, its vestige, and the heavenliness of the superb temple makes a noteworthy sentiment dedication and devotion. This Holy Shrine was worked by Shree Shivayya Pandit of Kaikini family who later came to be known as "Shivamuni" subsequent to taking Sanyasa Deeksha from his Guru Shri Swami Chidanand of Bailur Math. He was a vigorous Sadhaka of Holy Mother Shree Shantadurga. The accompanying gods are worshiped in this temple since times obscure. (1) Shree Shivaling (Shree Shivamuneeshwar) on the Samadhi of the Saint Shri Shivamuni (2) Shree Shantadurga and Shree Mahakali which were brought by the precursors from Goa (Gomantak) when leaving their home amid the coldblooded times of Portuguese Inquisition. (3) Shree Gopalakrishna and Shree Chakra which was gotten by Shri Shivamuni from his Guru Shri Chidanand as Holy Prasad.

Shree Shivamuni achieved Samadhi by being converged with the Eternal and Supreme Brahman in Shaka year 1674, Angirasa Samvatsara in the forenoon (at 9.50 a.m.) of Saturday, Vadi of fifth Adhika Ashadha, when the Sun was in Dakshinayana in the sign Mithuna with the planet Jupiter. (The relating date of English Calendar is Saturday, 20 June 1752.) His Holy Samadhi is in this Temple of Shree Shantadurga, the Presiding Deity, and consequently the name of the temple is "Shree Shivamuneeshwar Shantadurga Devasthan". This temple is arranged in delightful quiet and normal green surroundings purified by the nearness of Parivara Devata, Shree Kshetrapala and Holy Shree Naga Devata in the external environment and Shree Shivaling, Shree Shantdurga, Shree Mahakali, Shree Gopalakrishna and Shre Chakra, in the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Temple was redesigned in 2014.

Every year the Navratri festival is celebrated with pomp and splendor. Devotees from faraway places like Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Dharwad, etc. visit the temple for this annual ritual of the Navratri festival.

Shikhara Kalasha Sthapana, Shri Naga Punarpratishtapana was performed on Friday, 9 February 2014 by Param Poojya Sadyojat Shankarashram Swamiji, Mathadhipati, Shri Chitrapur Math, Shirali.


How To Reach Uttara Kannada


The nearest airports to Uttara Kannada are Goa, Mangalore and Belgaum. Uttara Kannada enjoys good railway communication since the Konkan Railway passes through the district. The national Highway No.17 passes along the coastal areas of the district. There are buses to Karwar from Bangalore (520 km) and from Goa (100 km). One can reach Karwar by bus from Mangalore (273 km) and Belgaum (167 km) too
