According to legend, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who was on his way to Kangra with his troops, was detained and checked at this spot by Maharaja Shital Giri, who used his spiritual power to detain them. Maharaja Ranjit Singh, built a Shiva temple, out of reverence for the saint. The samadhi of Shital Giri is situated by the side of the temple.
