Overview
The city of Vrindavan goes synonymous with the life of Lord Sri Krishna. It is a town in Mathura district where, according to Mahabharata, Lord Sri Krishna spent his childhood. Also, it is one of the most important Hindu pilgrim places. The place is known as Seva Kunj because Lord Sri Krishna used to do seva (service) of Radha and helped her to get ready for the Raas Leela (a holy dance).
About the Temple
The temple was discovered by Swami Hith Harivansha in 1590. Followers of him maintain this sacred site and offer daily pooja to the presiding deity. It has a beautiful temple for Radha Krishna also known as Rang Mahal, where Radha and Sri Krishna performed Raas Leela along with other gopis (women) of Vrindavan. The temple’s walls are covered with paintings of various leelas performed by Shri Radha Krishna. Each painting shows different aspects of Radha and Sri Krishna. One of the paintings depicts Sri Krishna combing and decorating Radha’s hair. In another painting, Lord Sri Krishna is massaging legs of Radha after she is tired of Raas Leela. Other paintings depict Radha Krishna playing Holi and in one Sri Krishna is enchanting Radha while playing flute.
The temple gates get closed after sunset and nobody is allowed after evening, as it is a local myth that Radha and Sri Krishna still perform Raas Leela and nobody is allowed to see this divine spectacle. Even the monkeys desert the temple after sunset.
A little away from Seva Kunj is Lalita Kund, which is believed to have been constructed by the flute of Lord Sri Krishna. Just north of Seva Kunj is Imli Tala which has a very old tamarind tree which had existed since the time of Sri Krishna. The tamarind tree lies in the courtyard of a Radha Krishna temple which was built by Maharaja Bhakti Saranga. Lord Sri Krishna used to sit under this tree and his body would turn into gold after ecstatic separation from his most beloved devotee, Radha.
It is also surrounded by various other temples like Radha-Vrindavan-Chandra temple, Banke Bihari temple, Dwarkadhish temple, Shahji Temple, Radha Damodar temple, Radha Shyamsundar temple and Raja Bharatpuras Palace. The city is best seen during Janmastami, Holi and Radhaastami and is lavishly decorated on these occasions.

Airport
Vrindavan does not have an airport. Nearest airport is the Kheria Airport.
Railways
Vrindavan has a railway station but not all the trains stop here. Closest railway station is Mathura which is about 14 Km away.
Road
State buses connect Vrindavan with other cities like Mathura, Agra and Haridwar. There are also direct buses from Delhi to Vrindavan. Most of the buses go to Mathura every half an hour. Vrindavan is just 10 Kms from Mathura.
