About the Temple

Sri Ramdevji temple is actually a Samadhi built in memory of the late saint Baba Ramdevji. Originally, a simple tomb was erected by the Baba's descendants upon his death, while the cenotaph that we see presently was constructed by Maharaja Ganga Singhji of Bikaner at Shri Ramdevra Runecha. Maharaja Ganga Singh had heard of Baba Ramdevji and his many divine powers, and had become his ardent follower. He raised this cenotaph for the Baba as a mark of paying his respects to the late saint. This tomb or cenotaph is at the centre of the temple campus, with the head placed on the north while the feet are towards South. This temple also houses several other tombs belonging to the family members of Shri Ramdevji. Generally, the bodies of the dead are cremated according to ancient Hindu Dharmas. But unlike the usual Hindu custom, the dead are buried in the Nath cult, over which a tomb is erected later.

While the original Samadhi of the Baba was quite simple and ordinary, the present temple built by the Maharaj is quite fascinating. Various kinds of lattices, projections and Jharokhas (a projected construction covered by lattices around) are built. Other than the shrine's center part where the Baba's Samdhi is found, the exteriors and the other areas are built using modern designs and techniques of architecture.

Even today, there are several people who believe in the greatness of the Baba, who eventually visit his Samadhi to seek his divine blessings.
