Sri Ram Chandra Temple is situated at the Dholpur district of Rajasthan State in India. This temple is primarily dedicated to Lord Sri Ram, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
About the Deity
The primary deity of this temple is Lord Sri Ram Ram who appears here with four arms holding a Shankh (conch), a Chakra (discus), a Gada (mace) and Padma (a lotus flower). Goddess Sita, who is an avathar of Goddess Lakshmi graces along with the Lord. The vigraha of Lord Ram is made up of eight precious metals while that of Maa Lakshmi is in marble.
About the Temple
According to Legends, the vigraha of the Lord was unearthed by a cowherd somewhere near the borders of princely States Karauli and Dholpur. Maharaja Keerat Singh who had then ruled over the present Dholpur Chhawani region, bought the vigraha from the cowherd and had built a temple for the Lord, in front of his royal palace.
The temple follows Sri Vaishnava customs and traditions that were propagated by Saint Sri Ramanuja. Devotees of Lord Vishnu visit this temple in large numbers, seeking the divine blessings of the Lord Ram. The shrine is spread over a vast area, yet structurally the temple design is simple. The roof of the prayer hall here is supported by huge pillars.
Despite having a plain and simple architectural design, the temple doesn’t fail to impress the visitors with its sprawling area and mammoth pillars.
Ramnavmi, Dusshera, Deepawali are some of the prominent Hindu festivals observed in this temple.
Custom & Traditions of Temple
The pooja rituals for the deity here are performed according to Sri Vaishnava Sampradhaya (norms and traditions).
